the great rock matte painting by kuroe702 the great rock matte painting by kuroe702
Another update with matte painting, the center piece rock is actually from Zion National Park.
but all other stuff are added in. The trees and vegetation in the foreground are made by Vue. I'm working on animation of this scene right now.

hope you guys like it =)

updates* I did the animation for this matte painting, check it out here:

looks pretty good, a few suggestions though, first, i usually avoid using vue vegetation for foreground objects, because the polygonal shapes of the leaves are pretty noticable. and then, i'm not too sure about the godrays, they're a cool idea but for some reason they don't seem to fit into the lightsource

the rainbow for the waterfall is a nice subtle touch though :)

yeah I think I need to cut the lens godrays down a bit, this is the case where less is more.

I want to use vue cuz it can animate, and I want to do simple animation of this scene, maybe I'll give it a bit lens blur and some noise and see if it looks more natrual. :)

are you doing the compositing in an external program?

usually I do camera projection in max (if needed)
and final composition in After Effect

hm, so you can't replace the trees with phototexture and animate it somehow? sorry for all the questions, never done compositing myself so i'm curious :P

not that I know of :P
tree animation is subtle but complex, each leaf flutters and lighting on them change.
if I use photo it'll just be still image, I can probably tilt it around but it won't look that good imo
